Lights Out

Read the transcript
Panel 1. At a night baseball game, a batter hits a high fly ball. Sam, the catcher, and a fielder look up toward the ball under the floodlights. No dialogue.
Panel 2. The lights go out. The panel is black. Unseen voices: “Hey!” “Where is it?” “I can't see!”
Panel 3. Still black. A soft “pock” marks the ball landing in a glove. Sam's calm voice: “Out.”
Panel 4. The lights come back on. The outfielder stares at the baseball in his glove: “How did you see that?” Sam answers with a slight closed-mouth smile: “It's my job.”
An ordinary guy. Mostly.
Sam calls the game. The rest of his life is harder to explain.
